Sheikhpura, June 2(BiharTimes): Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Tuesday launched a veiled attack on the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) amid the ongoing controversy over the allotment of a government bungalow currently occupied by former Chief Minister Rabri Devi.
Without naming the party or its leaders, Choudhary remarked, “This is not a monarchy. The mother wants one house, and the son desires another,” in an apparent reference to Rabri Devi and her son, Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav.
The Chief Minister made the comments while addressing a gathering at a Sahyog Camp in Sheikhpura, an initiative aimed at ensuring prompt resolution of public grievances across departments.
The controversy centres around Rabri Devi’s continued stay at 10, Circular Road, despite being allotted 39, Hardinge Road in her capacity as Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council.
Meanwhile, Tejashwi Yadav currently resides at 1, Polo Road.
Highlighting his own conduct, Choudhary said he has not lived in a government bungalow for several years, choosing instead to stay in his private residence. He added that he agreed to operate from 1, Anne Marg—the official residence of the Chief Minister, now renamed Lok Sevak Bhavan—only after insistence from his predecessor Nitish Kumar.
Praising Kumar, Choudhary noted that the former Chief Minister set an example by vacating the official residence promptly after stepping down. “The day my leaders ask me to step down, I will pack my bags and leave without hesitation,” he asserted.
Continuing his criticism, the Chief Minister accused some political figures of treating government accommodation as personal property. “Some believe a bungalow is an inheritance. One house for the mother and another for the son—this mindset has no place in a democracy,” he said.
